If you live in the capital region and you have never checked out The Arts Center in Troy you are missing out! It is a fantastic facility that offers a variety of classes, exhibits, and performances. From drawing to cooking to jewelry making to yoga, they have it all! I have been teaching adult Ballet and Modern classes there for the past couple of years and I am happy to see that the classes are finally starting to grow. We have a group of regulars who I am always glad to see, but we are always welcoming fresh faces to the group too. Some of these people have never danced before and I am constantly inspired by those stepping so far out of their comfort zone. Cudos! It doesn't stop there for dance at the Arts Center. Jason Fenton teaches Swing, Blues, and Lindy Hop. He is a great teacher and I highly recommend taking his class! Your options don't end there so go on the website and check it out! http://www.artscenteronline.org/dance-fitness/dance/weeblylink_new_window

In case you missed this yesterday, google did an animation to celebrate what would have been Martha Graham's 117th Birthday! I think they did a fantastic job of paying tribute to one of the great pioneers of modern dance. Hello everyone!
I am very excited to be starting this website! Why? Well, I think if you are an artist of any kind, you know regular work does not just fall in your lap. We spend so much time perfecting our craft, just to find out that, not only must we be very good at what we do, we must also be salesmen. The product? Ourselves. But the catch is, many of us do what we do as a way to express ourselves because we find it difficult to do other ways. I feel very fortunate to work for the Ellen Sinopoli Dance Company where I am able to perform on a regular basis. That being said, I also enjoy doing projects outside the company and I don't think a little self promoting will hurt anything. I also plan to use this as a place to share ideas and resources with friends. I get questions from past and present students about technique, career paths, etc. Here our conversations can benefit more people and all of us "dance nerds" can share what we know so that we can all continue to learn and be inspired! Stay tuned everyone and thanks for visiting! |
