Upcoming Performance!

I am particularly excited about a performance I have coming up this weekend at the 92nd Street Y Harkness Dance Center.  The space has quite a history, as several of our favorite dance pioneers have performed there.  It is always exciting to work and/or perform in a beautiful space.  When the beautiful space however, is specifically for dance, you walk a little taller with a certain pride knowing that the space is for you.  As you enter the second floor lobby of the Y, among others, there are pictures of Martha Graham, Anna Sokolow, and Doris Humphrey, that remind us of the courage and hard work they put into doing what they believed, as well as creating a new path for dance.  It is easy to see them as surrogate parents who made the dance world a better place for our generation.  The performance space itself is spacious with high ceilings that are painted in a colorfully ornate design.

This weekend's performance is part of Out Of Israel, a weekend of free programs featuring Israeli choreographers.  Each choreographer gets a half an hour slot, and the audience may attend all, or as few of the presentations as they wish.  I am performing in a piece titled Sea Song choreographed by Lior Shneior.  This is my first time performing with Lior, and I have to say the process has been most fulfilling.  It has a fantastic cast, and I can't wait to share the stage with them all.  We go on Saturday January 7th at 5pm, with other choreographers starting that day as early as 3pm.  If you are a dancer or dance fan, you should definitely take advantage of as much of this FREE event as possible.  Click here to check out our event on Facebook!

"She has a naturalistic, exotic quality.  With her arms spread wide and poised on one leg, she appears as a bird in flight."  ~Wendy Liberatore, Daily Gazette
