This Thursday, I am heading up to New York to see Einstein on the Beach at BAM.    The anticipation and excitement I have to see this four and a half hour intermission-less Opera, makes me feel like a kid on Christmas morning.  Kind of a nerdy one too, because not only have I shaken the wrapped gifts a bit, but I have also weighed them, noted the tone and pitch of the sound they make when shaken, taken down their dimensions, and calculated their density.  Okay, maybe I haven't gone that far, but I HAVE been excitedly doing my homework.

The obsession started after watching the film Absolute Wilson last spring, which I recently re-watched.  I soon discovered that they were doing a revival of Einstein on the Beach which includes choreography by Lucinda Childs and music by Philip Glass.  I also discovered that a friend of mine was in it!  I HAD to go!  So this Thursday is the big night!  You can shake that gift all you want but you won't know what's inside until you open it, and experience it first hand.  If you don't know who Robert Wilson is, you should definitely look him up.  Whether you agree, disagree, like or dislike his work, he is an incredibly interesting person who has had a huge impact on art and people.  You can find the film Absolute Wilson on Netflix.  Below are some articles about the upcoming run of Einstein on the Beach!  I can't wait to experience this new world!

"Jennifer Yackel was wary and angular, a graceful warrior."
    -Tresca Weinstein, Times Union

"She has a naturalistic, exotic quality.  With her arms spread wide and poised on one leg, she appears as a bird in flight."  ~Wendy Liberatore, Daily Gazette
